NEW YEARS CAPSULE COLLECTION

Although we are all aware of global pollution, the excess of waste, and the reckless depletion of resources, which harm not only humanity but also nature, we rarely stop to think about what we could change to reduce all of this. As we spend more and more time at home, we invite you to take a more sustainable approach to the resources we use.

7 WAYS TO USE LESS WATER:

  1. Take care of your household appliances and their water flushing tanks. If they malfunction, don’t hesitate to call a specialist. Continuous water wastage costs more than the service fees.
  2. Reuse water used for washing fruits and vegetables to water your plants and flowers.
  3. Install a shower head with an aerator. This can significantly help conserve water while showering without compromising comfort from a weaker flow.
  4. On average, 7 liters of water flow from the tap every minute. Even though we might wash our hands or dishes quickly, it all adds up.
  5. If you live in a countryside house or a private home, collect rainwater to save water when watering plants.
  6. Always make sure your washing machine or dishwasher is completely full before starting the cycle.
  7. When boiling food, only use enough water to barely cover it. Steam cooking is also a more water-efficient and healthier option.

7 WAYS TO CREATE LESS WASTE:

  1. Think twice before accepting plastic bags, ads, leaflets, etc. Choose fabric alternatives to single-use bags.
  2. Switch to more sustainable household and personal care products. Replace plastic straws with long-lasting metal ones, plastic toothbrushes with bamboo ones, and paper towels with fabric ones.
  3. Composting at home. A convenient way to dispose of organic waste naturally and nourish your garden or even indoor plants. Composting is also possible in apartments.
  4. If you haven't already, request your utility provider to stop sending paper bills, and pay for services online.
  5. Support local farmers and shop at the market.
  6. Always take the opportunity to donate unwanted clothes to shelters and other charitable organizations. Charity Organizations (Vilnius Archdiocese Caritas, LŽNS Vilnius Disabled Day Center, Aukok.lt, etc.).
  7. Plan ahead. Try to plan meals, purchases, travels, and so on more carefully. This way, you’ll avoid unnecessary expenses and will be more likely to choose sustainable products and services.

7 WAYS TO USE LESS ELECTRICAL ENERGY:

  1. If you live in a house, consider installing solar panels on the roof.
  2. Don’t forget to use targeted lighting. When daylight is insufficient, use individual task lighting such as desk lamps to illuminate specific areas rather than the entire room.
  3. For areas that require broad lighting, invest in presence or motion detectors. This way, you not only control costs but also save energy.
  4. Ensure the fridge temperature is optimal and not overloaded. If there’s more than 5mm of ice in the freezer, defrost it. The more ice there is, the more energy the freezer needs.
  5. Unplug all unused devices.
  6. When buying new appliances, always pay attention to the energy consumption rating. A is the most efficient, G is the least.
  7. When using air conditioning, close all windows.
  8. Don’t forget to take advantage of “free” light – daylight.
